What this song means to me:

I really connected with this song when I first heard it and knew I had to make a piece to it. Choreographing it came naturally to me as I just expressed what I feel throughout the song

Cara Bode Young created this choreography for the advanced jazz class at FUNKMODE back in July of 2021. P!nk's advice to "just be yourself" really resonated with TJ, so she's very exited to share this piece with you all.

What this song means to me:

This is the most difficult piece I have done. I think the song is beautiful and I am looking forward to performing again with new challenging tricks.

What this song means to me:

This piece is the representation of how I felt when I was working up the courage to leave an emotionally abusive partner. Fighting back and knowing I had to go, but feeling powerless, hopeless, and as though I’d be stuck there forever. 

I eventually did make my great escape and am now happily settled with a man so wonderful he makes life feel like a dream.

The first time I heard this song I sat and cried for 10 minutes and then I knew I needed to dance it.

TJ & Sarah could not resist using this fun song for their Lollipop duet. They both love Moulin Rouge and after all Diamonds are a girl's best friend. They hope you enjoy this upbeat routine as they love performing it!

What this song means to me:

The title of the song "Alegría" translates to happiness, but its multilingual lyrics convey the importance of embracing the beauty inherent in both joy and sorrow in order to truly experience alegría. It immediately resonated with me when I first heard it during a Cirque du Soleil performance at the very beginning of my aerial silks journey, and later evolved to reflect my deep love and passion for the aerial arts. To me, this song symbolizes that anything is possible.

Casey is an East Bay native and mother of 2. She has performed with various theatre companies and Funkmode Performance Company. Over the years, music has been a way for Casey to feel connected to her grandmother, who passed away in 2005.
